Frequently Asked Questions
Which teaching method do you use?
I follow the Suzuki Method. If students need extra practice with a specific technique, I will suggest supplemental repertoire or technique books to help strengthen their skill set.
Will my child learn how to read music?
Yes! I typically teach by rote during the first year to ensure strong technique. Most students are able to read music by the end of Suzuki Book 1.
Do you teach music theory?
Yes! I teach music theory at all levels, including vocabulary, rhythm, time signatures and key signatures, the circle of fifths, chord structure, and how to analyze music.
What is a good lesson length for my child?
30 minute lessons are typically a great way to start. During your trial lesson, I will suggest a lesson length that I believe will suite your child the best.
What are your rates?
$45 for 30 minutes
$65 for 45 minutes
$85 for 60 minutes
How much should my child practice?
For beginning students, 15 minutes a day for 4-5 days a week is ample. Intermediate to advanced students should practice at least 45 minutes - 1.5 hours every day.
How are parents involved in their child's music lessons?
When parents are actively involved with their child's musical journey, they are able to help create routine, discipline, and a positive environment at home. Sitting in during lessons and practice time can help keep the child focused and encouraged.
Are there additional music programs you recommend my child to join?
There are several fantastic youth orchestras and summer festivals for students of all levels to join. Students can also choose to go through Certificate of Merit, which is a yearly adjudication in performance and music theory. See Resources for more details.
What is your cancellation policy?
Lessons cancelled more than 24 hours before your lesson time will be issued a makeup credit. Lessons cancelled within the 24 hour window will be charged in full.
What should I do if my child is sick?
Let me know as soon as possible! You won't be charged when your child misses their lesson due to feeling sick.
